Graduate Assistant

I was selected for a full-ride Graduate Assistantship for my Master’s degree to co-run the Nonprof-IT program.

Nonprof-IT is a UWM internship program that selects students to work as a team and connects them with a local non-profit organization to help them with their technology needs. The students get class credit, and real-world client experience, and well-deserving organization get critical technology help. We have helped over 30 nonprofits so far.

Duties includes:

  • Interviewing and selecting both students and organizations.
  • Organizing student groups and giving guidance when needed.
  • Consulting nonprofits with projects too small for a group of students.

Digital Collection Specialist

Work with Dr. Michael Zimmer on his research project, The Zuckerberg Files.

Duties included:

  • Creating a new Digital Collection for the project.
  • Create and design a new solution that was, modern, aesthetically pleasing, and easy-to-use while still maintaining functionality required in a digital collection (i.e. an advanced search).
  • Training student researchers on how to input new data into the system as well as general maintainability.

Student Web Developer

Work closely with the System Administrator to support and maintain a wide array of web-based technologies for our school.

Duties included:

  • Maintaining security policies regarding web based applications.
  • Helping to execute our disaster recovery plan after an attack against our system.
  • Maintaining our customer relationship management suite (SugarCRM) used for admission records.
  • Migrating SugarCRM to the new, updated and secured version.
  • Helping with maintenance on the main public facing SOIS website.
  • Creating SharePoint automation workflows for the department.
  • Various web script projects.
  • Helping staff with web related issues.
  • Other web related projects.

Reason I left: I received a full Graduate Assistantship which included a contracted position for the duration of my Masters program.

Summer SharePoint Intern

Summer intern in the Bureau of Information Tech Services working with the DMV Customer Self Service (DMV-CSS) unit.
The DMV-CSS unit is in charges of all technology solutions for the DMV.
I was tasked with upgrading and revamping the DMV-CSS SharePoint site.

Activities included:

  • Updated and restructured the core site.
  • Created a dynamic Dashboard to give management auto-updating metrics on the ongoing projects.
  • Created a knowledge-base to consolidate information of their various web applications.
  • Created a SharePoint solution that created an electronic version of a tool that was previously handwritten on a whiteboard.
  • Maintained standards set by the DOT.

Reason I left: I completed my summer internship and went back to Milwaukee for my senior year.

Department Academic Tutor

I tutor students in School of Information Studies (SOIS) classes and help them with any of their academic questions or problems. I work with a variety of people, including returning adults, students with various disabilities, graduate students, and undergraduates from all standings.

Common tutoring topics include:

  • PHP, MySQL, and overall database management design.
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for general web design.
  • Assist with software products used in a variety of technology related fields.
  • Teaching sessions with regards to Adobe and Microsoft products.
  • Debugging coding projects while also explaining overall concepts.

Reason I left: I received a full Graduate Assistantship which included a contracted position for the duration of my Masters program.

2014 – 2017

Golda Meir Library

Media and Reserve Staff

I worked at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Golda Meir Library in the Media and Course Reserve Department.

Job duties included:

  • Maintained our reserve collection.
  • Assisted both students and faculty patrons.
  • Checked out laptops, video camera, microfilm, movies, video games, newspapers, and textbooks.

Reason I left: State law changed to limit student hours, I kept my other two jobs on campus.

2015 – 2016

Research Assistant

  • I assisted Dr. Michael Zimmer on his research project, The Zuckerberg Files, through the School of Information Studies at UW-Milwaukee.
  • I organized online files, helped maintain the core database, and collected data results using NVIVO, an analysis software.

Reason I left: The project launched.
